Trailing 9-7 in the seventh inning with two runners on base, the Lady Saints went to the bench to send Alyssah Pontoja to the plate. Pontoja sent the ball deep to center, and when the ball sailed over the fence, Seward rallied from a four-run deficit to earn a 10-9 win.

Pontoja’s walk-off homer  came after the Lady Saints started with an early lead when Jaci Oakley hit a two-run shot off the scoreboard in the first inning that gave the Lady Saints a 2-0 lead.

Neither teams cored until the fifth inning when Dodge City broke through for six runs in an inning that included seven hits and a walk.

The Lady Saints cut the lead to 6-4 when Jacie Scott hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth,

But Dodge City added two more in the sixth with a home run that chased Pontoja off the mound, and an error allowed another Lady Conquistador to score to push the lead to 8-4.

Melissa Crisanti helped score a run with a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the sixth, but Seward still trailed 8-5.

A sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh allowed another Dodge City run for a 9-5 lead.

Scott singled to start the seventh for Seward, and Oakley cranked her second home run of the game to cut the lead to 9-7.

Ashley Low doubled after a Dodge City pitching change, nd Ayanna Clemons followed with a single.

Seward coach Ryan Wondrasek then called Pontoja back into the game, but instead of pitching, he wanted her bat.

She responded with a three-run shot over the center field fence to complete the rally and earn the 10-9 win.

Jacie Scott had two doubles and Low also doubled to go along with Oakley’s two home runs and the game-winning home run from Pontoja.

Ireland Caro took the circle in Game 2, and the Lady Saints cruised to a 12-1 win in five innings.

Macy Cesa-Spearman, Clemons and Pontoja each had a double, and Low homered in the win.

Seward traveled to Northwest Kansas Tech for the regular season double header finale before preparing for the KJCCC Tournament.
