Three runs separated the Liberal Bee Jays from an undefeated season, and the third one-run loss happened Wednesday to the Valley Center Mud Daubers, 9-8.

The Bee Jays knocked off the Kansas Curve by a 12-2 run-rule win Tuesday, and after both games the Bee Jays maintained a comfortable lead in the Jayhawk Division.

With only seven games remaining in division play, the Bee Jays have a four game lead over the Dodge City A’s. That means Liberal only needs a combination of four Bee Jay wins or four A’s losses to secure the division title. The Kansas Curve and Dirtbags have already been eliminated.

Liberal also leads to Kansas Collegiate League by a game over the Kansas Cannons, the leaders of the Walter Johnson Division, which means Liberal is in position to host the league championship series at the end of the regular season.

epic touch article

The Bee Jays pushed by the Curve Tuesday after building a 10-run lead twice, and the Bee jays rallied from a 6-4 deficit Wednesday against the Valley Center Mud Daubers to take an 8-6 lead by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth inning. But a rare letdown by the bullpen in the ninth allowed the Mud Daubers to score three runs in the ninth for the 9-8 win.

Payton Strambler had a rare rough inning and allowed five runs on only one hit. Jack Chester took the loss on the mound for the Bee Jays.
