Cason Gregory led a hitting frenzy Thursday night in Wellington for the Bee Jays. Gregory belted out four hits, and the Bee Jays had 22 hits as a team in a 12-4 win over the Heat that pushed the Bee Jays to a four-game lead over the Kansas Cannons in the Kansas Collegiate League.
Quintt Landis and Reed Thomas each had three RBIs in the win, and KP Werner hit a home run.
Jack Hagan pitched five innings and allowed four runs including a home run while walking four and striking out eight.
Kyle Duffey pitched four innings and only allowed two hits, two walked and no runs while striking out six.
While the Bee Jays were knocking off Wellington, the Cannons were struggling against the McPherson Pipeliners and suffered a 16-6 loss.
That allowed the Bee Jays to extend their lead to four games with only si games remaining in the regular season.
Any combination of two Bee Jay wins or two Cannon losses in the final six games will secure the league title for the Bee Jays and also lock down home field advantage for the KCLB championship series.
The Bee Jays have one regular season home game remaining not including the championship series. The Bee Jays will host the Cannons Wednesday before the two teams will face off in the league championship.
The NBC World Series begins Aug. 4.
