Thursday night in Garden City the Eisenhower Middle School Warriors swept the Kenneth Henderson Falcons.

The Warrior seventh grade team started off with a scoring drive capped off by a 12-yard Jayden Heronemus touchdown run off the right side which pushed the score to 6-0.

The Falcons answered quickly and scored on their first drive making it 6-6, and after a Warriors punt the Falcons took the ball again and drove down the field one more time to score their final score of the game and put the score at 12-6.

After another Warriors punt the Falcons took over with about one minute left in the second quarter. That’s when Jayden Heronemus intercepted the Falcons quarterback and returned it 47 yards for a touchdown. On the ensuing two point conversion, Jayden Heronemus took a pitch off the right side and scored pushing the score to 14-12 Warriors.

In the second half the Warrior defense really clamped down on the Falcons and only allowed three first downs the entire second half. They also came up with another interception. Amir Covarubbius made the pick to set up the Warriors put away drive with an interception and a return of 12 yards.

Max Holman sealed the victory for the Warriors with a two point conversion on a naked bootleg off right tackle, and the Warriors scored their final points of the game to go on to win their first game of the season 22 to 12.

The eighth grade Eisenhower Warriors came out on fire, scoring on three of the first six offense of plays.

The scoring got started by Xavier Tafoya who took the first play from scrimmage 62 yards to the end zone for a touchdown. Josiah Vargas then ran in the two point conversion and quickly the Warriors were up 8-0.

After a three-and-out from the Falcons, the Warriors took back over and on the third offensive play of the game, Josiah Vargas followed the block of Angel Peregrino for an inside run of 33 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

The next two scores would be from the Warriors thunder back Jairo Martinez who had an 11-yard touchdown run on the sixth offensive play of the game and then also had a 20-yard punt return for a touchdown. The special team score pushed the Warriors lead to 27-0 at the end of the first quarter. After an Aaron Duque interception, Warrior quarterback Blayden Betts connected on his only pass of the day with James Fieser for a 55-yard touchdown. Vargas would add a one-yard touchdown run, and Austin Dodge would add a 49-yard touchdown run to complete the scoring for the Warriors in a 46-0 win.

Aron Duque was two-for-five in extra point attempts.

Both Warrior teams will be in action next week in Great Bend where they will travel three hours to take on the Panthers.
