LETTER TO THE EDITOR, Liberal Vice Mayor Jeff Parsons

At the April 23 Liberal City Commission meeting, my fellow commissioners and I were able to hear about and address multiple items.

We heard from Oxford House, a residential addiction recovery option. We approved an ordinance establishing an RHID and adopted a development plan to expand housing in Liberal.

We also approved the construction of splash pads for Mahuron and McCray parks, adopted a new animal control ordinance and approved the LPD joining a Regional Drug Task Force along with several housekeeping issues.

In my opinion, it was one of the most productive commission meetings held since my election more than two years ago.

The commission’s expectation for the staff is that they will prepare us for each and every meeting with all the material we need to make an informed decision on whatever the matter is that needs to be addressed. The time and effort expended by our staff to prepare information and documentation for each commission meeting is truly impressive. The staff puts in literally hundreds of hours of work to get these items ready for a vote.

I know I speak for the entire commission in thanking the city manager and city staff members for all your hard work and diligence in preparing us for these very productive meetings.

I also want to thank every individual member of the city’s staff for keeping our community running smoothly, keeping it clean, safe and attractive, our utilities operating, and making Liberal a great place in which to live work and play.

Liberal, you have a hard-working, productive city staff!
