The Tyrone Bobcats turned away the Turpin Cardinals at the one yard on three drives to pull off a 30-26 come-from-behind victory, Friday night at Turpin.

With Turpin already leading, 26-22 with just over six minutes left in the game, the Cardinals were at paydirt’s door again at the Bobcat 1 yard line. But a reach across the goal line on fourth down was turned away by the Bobcats. Just two plays later, a 98-yard touchdown run gave the Bobcats their first lead of the game.

Turpin again drove to the Bobcat one yard line with less than a minute to play, but on third and goal another fumble at the one-yard line was recovered by Tyrone in the endzone and the Bobcats’ celebration began.

Early on in the contest it was Turpin who took the reins, taking an 18-0 lead not even ten minutes into the contest. The Cardinals scored on a 43-yard touchdown pass, a safety, and a one-yard TD plunge.

Tyrone answered back with an 8 play, 61-yard scoring drive to cut the lead back to ten. Turpin tried to answer back with a 10-play drive, but penalties that plagued them all game long put them in third and long. The result, a 92-yard pick six to bring the Bobcats back within two points, 18-16.

The Cardinals threatened again, going 64 yards on 10 plays, but a fumble on the reach across the goal line was recovered by the Bobcats who ran out the halftime clock.

A Bobcat fumble allowed Turpin to take over at the Tyrone 40. This time, the Cardinals made their way into the end zone to go up 26-16 with 6:52 left in the third quarter.

Tyrone answered back with their best drive of the night, a 12 play, 65-yard capped by a 7-yard touchdown run scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it a four-point game (26-22).

Tyrone totaled 247 yards and 10 first downs. Turpin had 299 yards and 15 first downs. Turpin totaled 10 penalties for 75 yards. Tyrone had 6 for 45 yards.

Tyrone (1-0) will travel to Boise City a week from Friday. Turpin (0-1) will host Stanton County this Friday.
