Vickie Joann Hays, 71, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024 at Homestead of Wichita.
She was born March 19, 1953 to Harry and Mary Ann (Wall) Gaston.
She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1971. After high school, she attended and graduated from Southwestern College, earning a bachelor’s degree in education.
She taught in Ark City, Winfield, Scott City, and Liberal until her retirement.
She was an avid reader and loved the band Chicago, even traveling to multiple cities to see their shows, and was considered a groupie.
She loved her dogs dearly, but most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.
Survivors include son, Roger Hays and wife, Christine, Kansas City; daughter, Amanda McKee and husband, Travis, Wichita; grandson, T.J. McKee; and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
• Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2024 at the Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City, Okla.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home & Crematory in Arkansas City.
Memorials are suggested to the Cowley County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
