Joseph Lee “Jody” Carpenter, 56, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025 in Wichita, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 26, 1968 to Virginia Carpenter (Trevino) in Garden City.

He received his GED from Fort Hays State University in 1987.

He had a passion for family, work, and the things he loved. His career as a driller in the oilfield took him across several states, but he always made time to follow his other passions, from grilling and dancing to working on cars and the 49ers.

He had a knack for making something out of nothing, but he often joked that he could never compete with his daughter Chassidy when it came to creativity and talent.

He was known for his deep love and commitment to his family, always making sure they had what they needed. His children fondly remember him with their special nicknames given by their father: Andrew was “Andrés,” Chassidy was “Chass” or “Mija,” and Dakota was “Koditas.”

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Candice Renee Carpenter; son, Andrew Ray Carpenter; his stepfather, Dave; grandmother, Margarita Trevino; grandfather, Jose Maria Trevino; aunt, Jaynee Trevino; uncle, George Flanagan; cousin, Vicente “Freddy” Vergara; and his dog, Bully.

• Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March, 15, 2025 at the rock shelter at Light Park at 1100 N. Kansas Avenue in Liberal.
