ULYSSES – Candido Ybarra, 89, died Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at his home in Ulysses.

He was born Feb. 2, 1936 to Crispin and Josefina Ybarra.

He married Odelia Esquivel July 6, 1957 in Munday, Texas. She preceded him in death.

He farmed all his life. Throughout the years, he worked for several respected farmers, including Art Olson, Alie Loewen, Gary Hearst, Melvin Gary, and Gene Spencer. He retired in 2015.

He enjoyed the simple blessings of life: gardening, fishing, cheering for his favorite WWE wrestlers, and listening to Tejano music. One of his favorite pastimes was playing Rummikube with family.

Survivors include three daughters: Yolanda Velasquez and husband, Larry, Ulysses, Sylvia Haun and husband, Chuck, Garfield, Ark., and Delma DeLeon and husband, Robert, Garden City; son-in-law, Alex DeLeon, Junction City; brother, Juan Ybarra; seven grandchildren: Larry Paul Velasquez, Brooke Velasquez, Allison Medina, Alex (Ay Jay) DeLeon, Aaron DeLeon, Corey DeLeon, and Davida DeLeon; and 13 great-grandchildren, with the family awaiting the arrival of a new baby boy in October.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lilia DeLeon; great-granddaughters, Ariana DeLeon and Alicia Velasquez; and 10 siblings.

• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025 at Emmanuel Ministierio in Ulysses, with Pastor Rafael Franco presiding. 

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses. 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. 

Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
