Dr. Karen Sue Platt-McClure, 57, died Sunday, April 20, 2025 in Hugoton.

She was born Sept. 29, 1967 to John and Suzanne (Ballard) Platt.

She married Joel T. McClure Nov. 23, 1993. He survives.

A graduate of Kim High School in Kim, Colo., she furthered her education at Otero College before earning her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Colorado State University.

She began her career as a veterinarian in Stevens County, where she combined her passion for animals with a steadfast commitment to her community.

She was a member of Bethel Friends Church and made significant contributions through her volunteering with the kids' club and leading the Awana Program for an impressive 23 years.

She enjoyed gardening, and held a special affection for dogs, cats, and goats.

She also actively participated in her children's events, such as 4-H and FFA, enjoying the moments when they excelled in their projects.

Survivors include three children: Dr. Emma Sue McClure, Jay McClure, and Max McClure; her siblings: John Platt and Julie Platt-Andron; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

• Book signing will be from 12 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Robson Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025 at Bethel Friends Church.

A memorial has been established for Bethel Friends Church, in care of Robson Funeral Home, PO Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
