Everett Earl Meliza was born Dec. 17, 1931, near Rosston, Okla., to Charles Jackson and Alma Bernice (Fleming) Meliza and passed away May 21, 2025, at his daughter’s home in Weatherford, Okla.
Everett was raised on a farm outside Rosston and graduated from Rosston High School in 1950. After graduation, he spent the summer harvesting wheat, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Everett spent four years at various air force bases serving as a teletype operator in AACS squadrons. After 18 months at Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland, he was transferred to George Air Force Base in Victorville, Calif. There Everett met his future wife, Roberta “Bobbie” Sharp. They were married Feb. 8, 1954, at the home of her parents in Adelanto.
After his discharge from the Air Force, the couple moved to Oklahoma. Everett was hired by the Rock Island Railroad as a teletype operator and retired in 1994, after 40 years spent with the railroad. After stints in El Reno, Chicago, and Fairbury, Neb., Everett spent most of his railroad career in Liberal.
Everett and Bobbie settled in Tyrone, Okla., where they raised their family – a daughter, Evette, and a son, Don. Everett enjoyed spending time with his family. Family time included weekends at the Rosston farm, summers at the baseball park, and trips to California, via train, to visit Bobbie’s parents. His children remember their dad as kind and generous man, both to them and to others. Everett and Bobbie enjoyed spending time as a couple. Together, they traveled around the United States, built their house in Tyrone, and enjoyed daily walks around town. The addition of a grandson, Chase, to the family brought special joy to the couple. While Bobbie enjoyed Hide and Seek with a young Chase, Everett enjoyed rides around the yard with his grandson driving the lawn mower.
Survivors include daughter, Evette Meliza, of Weatherford, Okla.; son, Don Meliza and wife, Rinda, of Cypress, Texas; grandson, Chase Meliza, of Houston; brother, Richard Meliza and wife, Lynda, of Woodward Okla.; sister-in-law, Gloria Meliza, of Winter Park, Fla.; and nieces and nephews in Oklahoma, Kansas, Florida, Idaho, and Arizona.
Everett was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie; his parents; brothers, Charles Meliza and Wesley Meliza; sister, Cleta Harmon; brother-in-law, Virgil Harmon; his in-laws John and Alma Sharp; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Sharp and Wayne Sharp
• Graveside services took place Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Rosston, Okla.
