ULYSSES – Armeta Kay Anderson, 71, died Friday, June 20, 2025 at her home in Ulysses.

She was born July 21, 1953 to Monte and Carmeta Smith.

She graduated from Ulysses High School in 1971.

She married George Anderson. 

She and George opened Anderson Graphics in 1979 followed by an office supply store called The File Cabinet. Jade’s Corner, a gift shop, was opened shortly after.

She enjoyed participating in community events, with her favorite being Moonlight Madness on main street.

Her favorite hobby was fishing…and she was good at it.

She also enjoyed her grandchildren’s sports, crocheting, knitting, painting, making lotions and watching movies, especially B-horror movies.

In recent years, she enjoyed gardening.

She loved sharing the Gospel and spending time with her Christian sisters. After losing her grandson, Payton, she dedicated her spare time honoring him by crocheting “Prayer afghans,” spending more than 60 hours crocheting and praying for the person receiving the afghan.

Survivors include her mother; son, Jared Anderson, Ulysses; daughter and son-in-law, Angi and Aaron Binney, Arlington; sister and brother-in-law, Tommie and Frankie Balizan, Rifle, Colo.; grandchildren: Kenneth and Amanda Butler, Wichita, Sam Ashida-Butler, Wichita, Ethan Ashida-Anderson, Wichita, Jayce Caldwell, Ulysses, and Brody Caldwell, Ulysses; and great-grandchildren: Crosby, Jacoby and Magnolia Butler, Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Mark Smith; and grandson, Payton Sanchez.

• Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Community Baptist Church in Ulysses, with Pastor Steve Swann Jr. presiding. 

Burial will take place at a later date at the Canton Cemetery in Canton, Okla. 

Memorials are suggested to the Kay Anderson Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
