ELKHART – Charles Wayne "Chuck" Oswald, 85, died Monday, June 30, 2025.
He was born June 14, 1940 to Raymond and Mabel (Sloan) Oswald.
He graduated with a class of 14 from Yarbrough High School in Eva, Okla. in 1958. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University.
He was an Army veteran and served in Vietnam as a jeep mechanic.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company as a design engineer for more than 30 years and created many truck parts that were patented.
He was a member of Northwest Christian Church for more than 25 years and served on the property and building committee.
Survivors include daughter, M. Diane (John) Engle, Eureka, Mo.; son, Steven W. (Amy) Oswald, Colleyville, Texas; sister, M. Ann (Chalmer) Brown, Cheyenne, Okla.; and grandchildren: John D. Engle, Beavercreek, Ohio, Andrew J. Oswald, Colleyville, Texas, Abigail M. Oswald, Miami, Cassandra D. Engle, Lincoln, Neb., and Ethan W. Oswald, Colleyville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; fiancée, Marilyn Shull; brother, James “Jim” Oswald; and former wife and mother of his children, Patricia J. Oswald.
• Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, with Reverend Jim Cunningham presiding. Military rites will be provided by Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Honor Guard.
Celebration of Life services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025 at Northwest Christian Church at 1306 N. Stanley Avenue in Decatur, Ill.
