ULYSSES – Nancy Kay Smith, 79, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2025 at her home in Grant County.
She was born April 23, 1946 to Joe Thomas “J.T.” and Louise (Davis) Fisher.
She grew up in Altus, Okla., where she also graduated from high school. She continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla., earning a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She later earned her nurse practitioner degree from the University of Texas.
She worked for the State of Oklahoma – County Health for Women for several years.
She married Larry Smith Dec. 10, 2010. He survives.
She enjoyed gardening, but she especially loved to travel and spend time in Colorado.
She found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include son, Mike Barnes and wife, Tammy; sister-in-law, Betty Fisher; stepson, Bryan Smith and wife, Shawna; grandchildren, Cody Barnes and Arron Barnes and wife, Emma; great-grandchildren, Cambria and Tucker Barnes; and multiple step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Eddie Fisher.
• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025 at Pleasant Prairie Church of God in Satanta, with Pastor Sandra Kennedy presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.
