The USD 480 school board is looking to make an easy night for itself for its next meeting Monday starting at 6:30. Monday’s meeting will be in Room C107 of the Liberal High School East Campus.

Up first in new business will be an information item concerning a rewards program for good deeds done by USD 480 students.

“Our School Resource Officers (SRO) began recognizing staff and students who were doing good deeds or were identified as exceptional students at LHS,” the agenda information noted. “This year, our SROs would like to expand the challenge coin program to the middle schools.”

Up next in new business will be discussion of the conversion of the LHS East Campus field.

“USD 480 is submitting payment applications 3 and 4 for the LHS East Campus field conversion to be paid out of lease purchase funds,” the agenda information noted. “There will be one additional pay app for this project in the amount of $67,599. Staff is recommending the board approve Payment Applications 3 and 4 to Hellas Construction in the total amount of $592,901.26.”

Also on the agenda will be discussion of the district’s use of Edustaff.

“We currently use Edustaff to provide subs to the schools.  We would like to renew the contract to the full service model, which would increase the administrative fee 3 percent,” the agenda information noted. “Under the full-service agreement, Edustaff will actively recruit, screen, employ and assign qualified individuals to perform sub services.  Recruiting activities will include online job postings, social media marketing, and local recruiting at a minimum of two onsite visits per year. Edustaff will ensure that Criminal History and Criminal Record Checks (Kansas and FBI), as well as fingerprint cards, in accordance with Kansas law and regulations, are conducted and they will verify that all supplied staff have the minimum education, degrees, qualifications and certifications required under the Kansas Statutes.”

Training is also involved, the agenda information continued.

“Edustaff provides any non-positional necessary training, including, but not limited to, training in laws related to the performance of their duties (child protection law reporting requirements, etc.), training in Bloodborne Pathogen and Hazardous Communication, and any other necessary non positional training,” the agenda information noted. “Edustaff is responsible for any claims for workers' compensation benefits or personal injury claims for job-related bodily injury or death. Edustaff will conduct substitute orientations monthly and will furnish Client and school specific information to its substitutes, when provided to Edustaff by the Client. In the 23-24 year we paid Edustaff $196,250, with $41,212 in administrative fees.  The additional 3 percent would cost approximately $5,900 on a similar gross wage base. This agreement may be terminated with 60 days’ notice. Staff is recommending the board approve the contract with Edustaff as presented.”

Concluding the meeting’s new business will be discussion of the renewal of Aruba support and discussion of streaming the USD 480 school board meetings
