After three years as the head coach of the Liberal Redskin football program, Bryan Luetters announced he would be stepping down from his teaching and coaching positions with Liberal High School.

The announcement came after a successful three-year run that included two post-season playoff victories and back-to-back winning seasons and an overall record of 18-11.

Luetters came with state championship experience, having won the title as head coach of the Meade Buffaloes in 2021.

After the Redskins struggled in the Western Athletic Conference for years, Luetters had the Redskins a double overtime win away against Hays from winning the WAC in 2023.

Luetters assembled an assistant staff that made an immediate impact on the program, but some of his coaches had yet to achieve their full certification. With a new focus on adding certified staff, Luetters faced the possibility of having to lose some of his staff and to try to replace them with potential newcomers to the district who may not have the background in coaching that Luetters had assembled in his coaching staff.

LHS Athletic Director Kerri Miles was complimentary of what Luetters had accomplished.

“Coach Luetters has been much more than a coach to this program — he’s been a mentor, a role model, and a leader for our students and staff alike,” Miles said in a release. “His ability to inspire others, on and off the field, is truly remarkable. The success of the football team under his guidance speaks volumes, but it’s the relationships he’s built and the lives he’s impacted that stand out the most.”

LHS will seek a new head coach immediately.
