Special to the Leader & Times

Last Wednesday, at approximately 1:24 p.m., officers with the Liberal Police Department and members of the Kansas Department of Corrections attempted to apprehend a subject with an outstanding warrant in the 1000 block of N. Pershing Ave.

Upon arrival, officers took up a position on the back side of the house in an attempt to ensure the subject would not flee from that direction. The subject began to crawl out through a back window while he was armed with an AR-15 style rifle. Upon officer commands, the suspect took cover behind a vehicle on the property. Eventually, the suspect complied with commands and surrendered peacefully.

The subject was transported and booked by the Kansas Department of Corrections on the Outside Agency Warrant. Additional charges are pending.
