An Elkhart man suffered a suspected minor injury in a three-vehicle accident Friday afternoon just south of Liberal.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said three vehicles were southbound on U.S. Highway 83 around 4:30 p.m. Friday about a mile south of the U.S. Highway 54 junction.

KHP said a 2018 Ford F150 conducted an abrupt illegal U-trun, and 2005 Peterbilt slammed on its breaks. A 2014 Kenworth crashed into the rear trailer of the Peterbilt.

The pickup’s driver, 21-year-old Brayden D. Yarnell of Erie, and the Peterbilt’s driver, Saul A. Rodriguez, 52, of Liberal, suffered no apparent injuries.

The Kenworth’s driver, 67-year-old Mickey B. Cobb of Elkhart, was taken to Southwest Medical Center with a suspected minor injury. KHP said all drivers were wearing seat belts at the time.

A Cimarron man was taken to a Wichita hospital with a suspected serious injury from an accident June 18 in Meade County.

KHP said about 12:30 p.m. that day, a 2013 Chevy Impala was northbound in the southbound lane of Kansas Highway 23 about three miles south of Meade, when a 2003 Chevy 3500 tried to avoid by going into the west ditch of Hwy. 23.

KHP said the Impala struck the 3500 in the southbound lane causing it to come to rest in the west ditch. The Impala’s driver, 38-year-old Alonzo N. Cruz of Cimarron, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with a suspected serious injury. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The 3500’s driver, Haran J. Castillo, 22, of Pratt, and a passenger, 23-year-old Kaleb J. Hough of Meade, suffered no apparent injuries. KHP said both were wearing seat belts at the time.
