Southwest Medical Center

Southwest Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital and Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards.

The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

SWMC underwent a rigorous, unannounced survey April 15. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with hospital and ambulatory care (clinic) standards spanning several areas including leadership, medication management and rights and responsibilities of the individual.

During the survey, the Joint Commission observed care, reviewed documents and spoke with employees and patients.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance.

“As a health care accreditor, the Joint Commission works with health care organizations across care settings to inspire safer and higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate,” Accreditation and Certification Operations Executive Vice President and Joint Commission Chief Nursing Officer Ken Grubbs said. “Through collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, the Joint Commission helps drive improvement while maintaining accountability through our leading survey methods and standards. We commend Southwest Medical Center for its commitment to advance safety, quality, equity and compassion for all patients.”

SWMC stays prepared for the survey, which occurs every three years, by holding employees accountable to the standards set forth by the Joint Commission and through constant review of the care provided to patients.

SWMC CEO Amber Williams said, “Southwest Medical Center is committed to providing quality care to patients. Maintaining accreditation from the Joint Commission is evidence of that commitment.”
