GARDEN CITY – One person is dead, and two others remain hospitalized after a shooting early Wednesday. Michael Lara, 19, Ivan Lara, 16, and Isaac Lara, 15, were arrested in connection to the investigation.
Around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers of the Garden City Police Department responded to a shooting at the Continental Apartments (1408 W. Buffalo Jones Ave.).
Officers arrived to find a 19-year-old male victim had been shot, and the victim was transported to St. Catherine Hospital by Finney County EMS.
After the victim was taken to the hospital, Officers were notified by hospital staff that before their arrival, two additional gunshot victims (a 23-year-old male and a 17-year-old male) were dropped off at the emergency room by a personal vehicle.
After the victims arrived at the hospital, St. Catherine was placed on lockdown as a precaution to ensure the safety of staff and patients.
All three victims were transported to Wichita for further treatment. One of the victims, identified as Brayden Becker, 23, died from his injuries. The other victims are reported to be in serious to critical condition.
Officers learned that before the shooting at the Continental Apartments took place, residents inside the victim’s apartment reported hearing loud banging at the front door.
Witnesses stated that the victim approached the door and opened it slightly when multiple individuals allegedly forced their way inside, shot the victim, and fled the scene.
Through further investigation, Michael Lara, Ivan Lara, and Isaac Lara were identified as suspects. All three were located, arrested, and lodged in juvenile and adult detention facilities.
The motive behind the incident is still being determined, but it is believed that the shooting was not random, and law enforcement is not seeking other suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
The Garden City Police Department offers its condolences to the family and loved ones of Brayden Becker and those affected by this incident.
