The Liberal Fire Department was kept busy with a structure fire Saturday afternoon.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene at 901 E. 2nd Street, Lot #25, shortly after 2:30 p.m. Saturday for a fire in the kitchen of the residence.
“The first arriving fire and law enforcement personnel encountered a manufactured home with a window mounted air conditioning unit actively burning,” a release from the LFD noted. “The fire was quickly knocked down and entry was made to extinguish the remaining fire burning in the bay window and front wall area. All occupants of the home had safely evacuated. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The fire was declared completely out at 2:47 p.m. All fire units and personnel cleared the scene at 4:04 p.m. and were returned to service. The residence suffered significant fire and smoke damage to the interior and was rendered uninhabitable. The American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced family. The fire started in the air conditioning unit and spread to the residence.”
The LFD responded with 16 personnel, two engines, one squad truck and one officer vehicle. Other agencies assisting with the fire were the Liberal Police Department, Seward County EMS, Liberal/Seward County Emergency Communications Center, Black Hills Energy, Southern Pioneer Electric and the American Red Cross.
