One driver sustained a head injury, and another received a citation in an accident Tuesday afternoon in north Liberal.

The Liberal Police Department issued a press release saying shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers and emergency personnel to a reported injury accident at the intersection of Tucker Road and Lilac Drive.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered one vehicle overturned,” the release said. “Through investigation, officers determined a 2004 red GMC Canyon was traveling eastbound on Tucker Road when a 2016 white Jeep Patriot, traveling westbound on Tucker Road, attempted to turn south onto Lilac Drive.”

The release went on to say the driver of the Jeep failed to yield to the GMC, causing it to strike the Jeep, and following the impact, the Canyon left the roadway and overturned.

The release said the GMC’s driver, a male, sustained a head injury and was transported to Southwest Medical Center for treatment, and the driver of the Jeep was cited for failure to yield the right of way when making a left turn.

“Due to extensive damage, both vehicles were towed from the scene,” the release said.
