Kansas Ag Connection

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced Farm Service Agency (FSA) operations in Kansas will continue despite the ongoing government shutdown.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins confirmed essential FSA services are resuming to support farmers and ranchers across the state.

According to the USDA, two employees will be stationed at each county’;s FSA office five days a week to manage core programs funded by the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC). This ensures Kansas producers continue to access vital assistance for their operations during the disruption.

Among the CCC-funded programs being reinstated are the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs, Marketing Assistance Loans, and several key disaster relief efforts such as the Livestock Forage Disaster Program, Livestock Indemnity Program, Emergency Livestock Assistance Program, and Conservation Reserve Program. Support for the Non-insured Disaster Assistance Program and Dairy Margin Coverage also remains active.

“FSA core operations will continue despite the government shutdown, ensuring essential support reaches America’s producers,” said Secretary Rollins in her statement.

While Kansas FSA offices will accept applications for programs funded by alternative sources – such as direct and guaranteed farm loans, the Emergency Livestock Revenue Program for wildfire and flooding recovery, the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (Phase 1), and the Emergency Conservation Program – payments for these will be delayed until further funding is approved.

The USDA encourages Kansas producers to stay in touch with their local FSA offices for the latest updates and available program assistance.

By keeping essential FSA services operational, the USDA aims to minimize disruptions to Kansas’s agricultural community, ensuring farmers have continued access to vital financial and disaster relief resources even amid the shutdown.
