An Iowa woman is dead, and an Iowa man suffered a suspected serious injury in a semi versus pickup accident Saturday morning in Seward County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. Saturday, a 2022 Kenworth was exiting from the Love’s Travel Stop west entrance and initiating a left trun to travel east on U.S. Highway 54 just east of U.S. Highway 83.

KHP said a 2021 Ford F350 was traveling west on Hwy. 54 and collided with the driver’s side of the Kenworth.

The driver of the semi, 41-year-old Emmanuel Terrell Lee Jimmerson, and a passenger, Anthony Dawayne Wilson, 58, both of North Las Vegas, Nev., were not injured in the wreck.

The driver of the pickup, Stanley Wayne De Weerd, 73, of Rock Valley, Iowa, was taken to Wesley Medical Center with a suspected serious injury, and a passenger, Arlis Kay De Weerd, 72, also of Rock Valley, suffered fatal injuries and was taken to Hornung Funeral Home in Liberal.

Neither Jimmerson nor Wilson were wearing their seat belts at the time, but both of the De Weerds were.
