A Liberal woman and a Liberal youth were injured in an accident Saturday morning in east Liberal.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported just after 7:30 a.m. Saturday, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra and a 2017 Honda Civic were stopped at the stop light at the intersection of South Country Estates Road and East Pancake Boulevard.

KHP said a 2025 Freightliner semi collided with the back of the Elantra and pushed it into the Civic.

The semi’s driver, 32-year-old Manpreet S. Mangat of Fresno, Calif., suffered no apparent injury. However, the Elantra’s driver and the Civic’s driver did sustain injuries.

The Hyundai’s driver, Griselda Martinez, 42, of Liberal, was taken to Southwest Medical Center with a suspected serious injury. The Honda’s driver, 18-year-old Edwin M. Mayorga also of Liberal, was also taken to SWMC with a suspected minor injury.

KHP said all three drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
