Seward County Community College

Seward County Community College trustees met last Monday, with Board Chair Marvin Chance, Jr. presiding. Members John Engel, Kelly Hill, Dustin Ormiston, Casey Mein, and Keeley Young attended in person and Brett Reiss joined by phone.

The trustees handled a light agenda in less than an hour, including approval of the personnel report and introduction of the newly hired SCCC Development Officer Becki Richardson. Interim Executive Director Amy Bridenstine, who also serves as SCCC Director of Financial Aid, announced that she’ll be stepping down from the Foundation role in March.

“I have enjoyed my time working with the Foundation and appreciate the trust placed in me to hold this position,” Bridenstine said.

Her decision was not made lightly but from a sense of duty to focus on Financial Aid as changes from the federal “One Big Beautiful Bill” are implemented.

The board approved adoption of summer hours for 2026. Campus will be closed Fridays from May 18 through July 31 as a cost-cutting measure. SCCC employees will work nine-hour days Monday through Thursday. Cafeteria and Wellness areas may operate on slightly different schedules as determined by their respective departments.

Vice President of Career & Technical Education (CTE) Dr. Amber Randles presented a revision to the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program. The 15-hour theory module, required for incoming students, will now be transcribed as a 1-credit-hour component of the official curriculum. This fully online moduce, Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) is completed by students on their own schedule. The board approved the change to the CDL Program.

Science and Allied Health students will soon have access to a high-tech virtual anatomy dissection table. The full-size 3D table provides interactive anatomical instruction to enhance student learning across multiple programs. The board approved the purchase of the lowest bid, an 84” unit from 3B Scientific, for $67,000. The college used grant funds for the purchase.
