A Liberal woman is dead following a rollover accident Sunday night in Ellis County, Okla.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported around 10 p.m. Sunday, a 2004 Ford F-150 was westbound on Ellis County Road 37 about 730 feet west of U.S. Highway 283 or about 14 miles north of Shattuck, Okla.

OHP said the pickup crossed Hwy. 283 and lost control on the gravel causing it to depart the roadway to the right, roll two times before striking a tree and coming to rest.

OHP said the driver, 20-year-old Arely Tarango of Liberal, was pronounced dead at the scene by Ellis County EMS. She was transported by Shaw Funeral Home to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s office.

One passenger, Eduin Gallegos, 18, of Booker, Texas, was transported by Ellis County EMS to Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

A second passenger, a 16-year-old female from Liberal, was also transported to Ellis County EMS to Newman Memorial Hospital, where she was also treated and released for minor injuries.

OHP said the speed of the pickup was not conducive to the roadway, but seat belts were in use by all occupants.
