A vehicle was deemed undrivable, but its driver and passenger were uninjured after the vehicle hit a deer early Sunday morning in Seward County.

Sheriff Gene Ward said shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, Selene Zamora Nava from Plains was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse eastbound on U.S. Highway 54 about four miles west of Kismet when a deer came from north of the grass median.

“The Traverse struck the deer causing extensive front end damage,” he said. “The radiator of the vehicle was pushed into the engine block, which made the vehicle not driveable.”

Ward said Zamora and her passenger were not injured, and both seat belts were in use.

“We would like to remind everyone to be safe when driving,” Ward said. “We have been seeing a lot of deer around the area.”
