Sarah Huckabee Sanders was critical of Kamala Harris recently, and when Harris responded to the criticism, she said that “women should be supporting women.”
If that’s true, then shouldn’t men be supporting men?
And if that is carried further, if people of color only support people of color, then you are condoning caucasians to only support caucasians.
There’s no doubt when it comes to political power and resources, white males have dominated.
While racism and sexism have played a part in that, white males also made up the largest group in the nation, so it would come as no surprise that they would also have accumulated the most.
Early settlement came from Europe as well, so it is also no surprise that white males coming from a society that was not as diverse as America is today would have reaped the most benefits.
That doesn’t dismiss that racism hurt minorities and sexism hurt women.
But shared trauma by itself is not the way to solve the issue.
In an effort to make sure women and minorities have an equal shot at the future, anti-discrimination laws in hiring practices have been implemented, and when it comes to access for capital, special loan programs have been put in place to directly benefit minorities and women.
Colleges used to use affirmative action to give an advantage to minorities and women to correct any historic bias, and not long ago the Supreme Court ended the process by saying it is no longer needed.
No only that, but it was actually hurting some minority students form gaining access to an education at the more prestigious universities. Asian students, for example, who outperform many other students, were not able to gain access because quotas required other students with fewer qualifications to take their spots.
This is just another example of how historic bias cannot be replaced with reverse bias.
When running for president in 2020, Joe Biden told an audience on a Black podcast that if they didn’t vote for him, “You ain’t Black.”
This is another twisted form of identity politics even though Biden is as white as the driven snow (not as pure as, just tinted the same).
Some call it identity politics, but it permeates beyond that with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies as well as the educational system implementing racial and even sexual identity policies that are designed to favor some students under the guise of protection while creating new discriminatory practice against others, such as girls in sports losing their positions on the team to boys who identify as girls.
Programs meant to right traditional wrongs, like Title IX, have been twisted and abused to actually become discriminatory toward the very people it was intended to protect.
Athletic opportunities at one time heavily favored male students because they had more options. Title IX required institutions to offer an equal number of sporting opportunities.
Did this hurt boys? Mostly no, but there were schools decided to cancel a boys program rather than start a new girls program. There was also the redistribution of funding for coaches and equipment to begin a girls program that came form budgets previously intended for a boys sport, but for the most part Title IX created something new.
Those policies, along with other laws that prohibited discrimination in the workplace, when selling a home or when serving customers, set the nation on the right path by providing access and opportunity where it did not exist before.
But that isn’t what the far left is asking for today.
They demand all people be identified by their race, religion, creed, sexual preference, color or national origin. And you need to represent your tribe by voting for Democrats. Everyone else is a racist, sexist, homophobic bigot.
You either comply with being defined by your physical attributes or you are a sellout.
The idea of a united America is dangerous to the left. It means we have learned to look beyond the color of our skin or whether we are male or female and will decide who we associate with politically based on policy.
If that were to ever happen, the left would be destroyed, because the only policy they have to push is keeping us focused on our differences, not our similarities.
If we focused on the rising cost of groceries, Democrats are toast. If we focused on enhancing academic standards, the inner city schools would be toast. If we sought liberty and justice for all, the hate-mongering politicians would be toast.
Unity would be the destruction of identity.
We are all unique, no matter our skin pigment or hair color. America, in effect, is a union of individuals, which we used to understand with the national slogan “e pluribus unum,” which means, through many, one.
Those that claim to want to unite us are dishonest when they say things like, “women should support each other.”
That statement easily translates to “get back in line.” It says women aren’t smart enough to recognize the political differences and only see victory in a leftist woman pushing leftist ideas. A freedom-loving conservative woman who believes in limited government isn’t thinking for herself, the left would say.
If women, or minorities truly want a better shot, then they should support equality, not equity. Freedom, not conformity, and expanded liberty, not revenge for historic injustice. That’s the promise of America.
