LETTER TO THE EDITOR, Carolyn Huddleston, Liberal

Week before last, I told about some bonuses received this year by staff of Cimarron Basin Community Corrections. To quickly review for those who missed that letter, Kayla Janko, the Director, received a bonus of $7,347, and each of her supervision officers received $4,513.

Since that letter, I have gotten more data, and found out that in the five-year period, 2021 through 2025, there has only been one year that the staff of Cimarron Basin did not get a substantial bonus. In 2021, the bonuses given out added up to a total of $16,070. In 2022, they totaled $16,155, then in 2023, $27,328, after which, they took a year off (2024), only to resume in 2025 with the $20,887 in bonuses detailed above. So, friends, in five years, the staff at Corrections received $80,440 in bonus money, and Kayla Janko got $21,975 of that.

Proposals for bonuses go to the county commissioners who either approve or deny them. So if you feel like I do about this, please let your commissioner know.
