LETTER TO THE EDITOR, Susan Lukwago, Liberal

I write this short letter to thank you all for making me laugh out loud during this sad day for Seward County.

This is what made me laugh out loud: “Third, we cannot linger on what went wrong too long.” This sentence was in the “Our Opinion” letter published today, Tuesday Dec. 16, 2025.

Lingering on what went wrong, for a long time, is what this newspaper and researcher Ms. Carolyn Huddleston, have been doing. Even when attempts at correction and development of written processes were made, it seems to me your choice was to linger in the past.

But after laughing out loud, I applaud you and join you in the call not to linger too long on what has gone wrong. We are sitting in it now, but it will pass. And we will get through it. Ecclesiastes 1:9 says “What has been will be again. What has been done will be done again. There is nothing new under the sun.”

None of this is a surprise to God and God will help us get through this, as He always has done.

EDITOR’S NOTE — Ms. Lukwago is very frugal with criticism, so sharing some with us leaves a mark. It is unfortunate that research had to be done to expose how Seward County has been operating, and the only place to find that data was from days past.

It can easily be said that attempts at correction were offered, and thanks to Brie Greeson, changes were suggested to follow the law only after the inappropriate actions were exposed.

Our commitment once the BOTA case has decided is to move forward with the new commission and how it chooses to address the issues that have been brought to public light.

We can do better, all of us, and we welcome the criticism from Ms. Lukwago. Now we can work together on carving a new path forward.
