Suain Moncayo continued to extend his school record number of goals in a career Tuesday by adding two more to his tally in a 3-2 road win over Hays Tuesday.

Moncayo tied the school record against Garden City two weeks ago with a penalty kick that gave him 58 goals, and then he shattered the record with another record, scoring seven goals against Hesston to set the record at 65 goals in a season while scoring the most goals in a single game for a Redskin.

Moncayo extended the new school record to 67 goals with the two he scored against Hays.

Aaron Duque put the Redskins ahead by scoring off an assist on a corner kick form Josh Garcia to give Liberal the 1-0 lead with 32:10 to play in the first half.

With 18:14 to play in the half, Moncayo found the back of the net on a penalty kick to give the Redskins a 2-0 lead.

Hays took advantage of a corner kick and scored a goal with 17 minutes to play in the half to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Hays goal was the first goal against the Redskins since Garden City scored a goal Sept. 19 and snapped a four-game shutout streak for the Liberal defense.

The game remained tied at halftime, and Hays tied the game with 28 minutes to play in the second half after Liberal was called for a hand ball in the box, and the Indians converted on the penalty kick.

Midway through the second half, Moncayo received a pass from Garcia and drove the ball into the net to give the Redskins a 3-2 lead.

The Liberal defense took over form there and did not allow another goal the rest of the was to secure the win.

While Liberal was fending off a strong threat from Hays, Dodge City was cruising over the Great Bend Panthers 8-0. Dodge’s win secured the Western Athletic Conference title for the Red Demons since Dodge City moved to 7-0 in the conference.

The Redskins are 4-1-1 in the WAC with a game against Greta Bend Tuesday followed by a road game against Dodge City to complete the regular season a week form today. Even if Liberal defeats Dodge City, the 1-1 tie against Garden City Sept. 19 would result in a second place finish in the WAC.

Beyond that, the Redskins are still playing for a top seed in the Class 6A playoffs.

Dodge City is currently the top seed in the West Regional at 13-0-0 followed by Wichita Southeast at 14-0-1. Liberal is currently third at 10-1-1, and the six goals allowed by Liberal continues to be the least amount of goals allowed by anyone in Class 6A.

Topeka Washburn is currently fourth at 9-2-2.

If Liberal can maintain its third seed position, they would be able to host a  first round playoff game, and if they win, they would host a second round game as well.

A projection of playoff match ups could be a third game against 14th seeded Garden City.
