The Lady Redskin wrestling team continued its strong start to the seaosn with a tournament win at the Olathe Northwest Raven Mania Tournament Saturday.
Champions included Keirsie Carlile (100 lb. weight class), Genesis Orrantia (105 lb. weight class),Isabella Gutierrez (110 lb. weight class) and Hayleen Martinez (190 lb. weight class).
Isabella Gutierrez showed dominance in her weight class with five wins by fall.
Alexa Valenzuela and Nicole Catala both secured second-place finishes and contributed significant points to the team.
Other notable performances included Liliana Santiago (135 lb. weight class, third), Evelyn Sandoval (155 lb. weight class, third), and Alexis Luna (120 lb. weight class, fifth).
Overall, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience across various weight classes, accumulating critical points through both championship victories and strong finishes.
While the Lady Redskins wrestled in Olathe, the Redskins headed to Colby and turned in a 2-5 dual tournament record for a 12th place finish.
The Liberal wrestling team faced intense competition in Colby. Despite challenges, they achieved notable victories, including a 36-33 win over Lawrence and close matches against McPherson and Lexington.
Key individual performances included Julian Orrantia (126 lb. weight class) and Brian Casas (113 lb. weight class), who consistently secured wins through falls and technical superiority.
Wyatt Mannel (165 lb. weight class) and Fabian Delacruz (144 lb. weight class) also contributed valuable points with multiple match victories.
However, defeats against dominant teams like Pine Creek and Hutchinson highlighted areas for improvement.
Overall, Liberal demonstrated determination and skill, with standout moments in a competitive pool.
