Special to the Leader & Times

A 14-strikeout, seven-inning no-hitter thrown by Seward County freshman Brooks Kappelmann led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors.

Kappelmann was electric on the mound in his only start of the week, tossing a seven-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts. In five appearances this season, Kappelmann is 2-0 with 37 strikeouts in 26.0 innings pitched, with his total strikeouts leading the KJCCC and ranking 12th nationally.

Kappelmann was a standout pitcher for the Liberal Redskins during his high school career and was also recognized across the state for his play as a quarterback.

Kappelmann is expected to pitch for the Liberal Bee Jays this summer and has played baseball at every level in Liberal.
