The Seward County Community College women's basketball team regained its shooting touch and the defense took over in an 81-49 rout of Pratt Community in the opening round of the Region VI playoffs Saturday at the Greenhouse.

The Lady Saints, who improved to 20-11 on the season, advanced to the quarterfinals to play at Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Seward entered the game with a three-game losing streak, starting each of those games with an offensive slump. There was no drought this time around. There were no lids on the baskets and the Lady Saints took off to a quick an early 8-3 lead to start the game. Seward held a 21-17 advantage after one quarter as Pratt stayed within striking distance. That was as close as the Beavers would get.

The Lady Saints opened the second quarter with a 12-0 run to blitz the Beavers and hold a 33-17 lead with over five minutes remaining. Seward held a 38-22 margin at the half and clamped Pratt to five points on just 2-of-8 (25 percent) from the field.

The Lady Saints continued to pour it on the second half, outscoring the Beavers, 25-16 in the third and 18-11 in the final stanza.

Kylee Hunt led four Seward players in double-digit scoring with 15 points. Allie Myers had 13 points, eight rebounds and seven steals, Ari Gordon added 11 points, nine rebounds and six steals ands Avery Marchino chipped in with 10 points.

La'Kyra Johnson had 18 points and Dana Imankulova scored 10 points to pace the Beavers, who finished their season at 8-21.
