Despite taking an early 5-0 lead, the Redskins couldn’t get the upset on the road against Hays and fell 10-5 in Game 1 of a double header.

After playing in a high scoring game, the Redskins came up short in a defensive battle in Game 2, 4-1.

Xavier Porras did his part to help the Redskins attempt to earn an upset win with three hits in Game 1. Blayden Betts and Marco Alonso each had two hits.

The Redskins pushed four runs across the plate in the second inning and added another in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead. But Hays responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 5-4.

The Redskins maintained the lead through a scoreless fourth, but after the Redskins failed to score in the top of the fifth, Hays took the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Liberal had the tying run at third in the top of the sixth but couldn’t score and trailed 6-5.

Liberal struggled in the bottom of the sixth, and Hays extended the lead with four insurance runs and a 10-5 lead.

The Redskins had  base runner but couldn’t score in the top of the seventh in the loss.

Alonso pitched four innings and allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four.

Betts pitched one inning and allowed five runs on one hit and five walks while striking out one.

McKye Morris pitched one inning and allowed one unearned run on no hits and no walks while striking out two.

The Redskins bats continued to struggle while also committing four fielding errors in Game 2 in a 4-1 loss.

McKye Morris started on the mound for the Redskins and threw four solid innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five.

Alex Schwindt relieved Morris  in the fifth and allowed no runs and no hits and no walks while striking out two.

Landon Martinez led Liberal at the plate with a triple.
