Seward County volleyball closed out the regular season at Dodge City's Student Activity Center on Saturday evening, falling 3-0 (22-25, 16-25, 20-25) to the Conquistadors.
Seward ends the regular season with a 9-18 overall record, 6-10 in conference matches. The 6-10 mark is a two-match win improvement from a season ago.
The Lady Saints now look ahead to the Region 6/Plains District Playoffs. Seward received the seven seed and will travel to Colby to take on the two-seed Trojans on Wednesday, November 5th, at 6:30 p.m. Hutchinson and Seward both finished 6-10 in league play but the Blue Dragons received the six seed due to winning more sets during the regular season over Seward. The Lady Saints and Trojans split the regular season with each team winning at home.
Seward struggled Saturday at Dodge City, hitting .185 while Dodge City (15-13, 9-7) hit .313.
The Lady Saints led 12-9 in the first set and later 18-14. With the score tied 19-19, Dodge City ended the set on a 6-3 run to go ahead 1-0.
Set two was back and forth but once the Conqs took a 9-8 lead, they never trailed again.
Seward never led in set three.
Sophomore Mariana Silva paced Seward with 15 kills on .189 hitting. Freshman Annalisa Volpatti had seven kills on .267 hitting. Freshman Maja Kobielska finished with 30 assists and six digs while Ana Nikolic had eight kills and nine digs and redshirt freshmanMireya Kawaguchi led Seward with 10 digs.
Sunni Skipps led Dodge City with eight kills while Chaehee Baek had seven kills on .500 hitting.
The Lady Saints finished the season in the first round of the playoffs with a 3-0 loss Wednesdya at Colby. The Lady Saints ended the season 9-19 and 6-10 in the Jayhawk Conference.
