COLBY – Seventh seeded Seward volleyball traveled to the Colby Event Center for the Region 6 opening round on Wednesday evening, falling 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 20-25) to the host, two-seed Colby Trojans.
Seward ended its 2025 season with a 9-19 overall record, 6-10 mark in the Jayhawk Conference under first year head coach Jelena Cohadarevic. It marks a two-win improvement in league action from a season ago.
The Lady Saints split the regular season with the Trojans, with each team winning at home.
Seward was down its leading offensive player, sophomore Mariana Silva, for the match.
Set one saw Seward face an early 6-1 deficit they were unable to recover from. Colby led from start to finish. Seward did put together a run to make it a 16-15 set but Colby ripped off a 6-0 run to go up 22-15, ultimately winning 25-17.
The Lady Saints did not lead in set two. With Seward trailing 4-3, Colby used a 6-1 run to take a 10-4 lead that was too much for the Lady Saints to dig out of. Seward fought off three match points, trimming the lead to 24-20, but a Colby block ended the set.
Seward battled in set three with the teams trading leads early. Colby was the first to 10 but Seward ripped off four consecutive points to lead 13-10 and forcing a Colby timeout. The Lady Saints pushed the lead to 15-11 but nine straight Colby saw them take control at 20-15. The Lady Saints pulled within two at 20-18 but that was the closest they got, falling 25-20.
