Liberal High School announced the appointment of Matt Quint as its new head softball coach. Quint, a seasoned player and coach with extensive experience in both playing and coaching softball, will be leading the Lady Red softball program starting in the spring of 2025.

Matt began his athletic journey at Garden City High School where he graduated in 2002.

During his time at Garden City Community College (GCCC) from 2002 to 2004, he was part of the Sub Regional Champs team in 2003. He then went on to play for Emporia State from 2004 to 2006, where he played a pivotal role in securing the 2005 Regional Championship.

Quint also played for the Liberal Bee Jays in 2005 and the Derby Twins in 2006.

Quint started as a pitching coach at Garden City Community College from 2008 to 2010. He then helped coach the Liberal Bee Jays, guiding the team to victory as NBC National Champions in 2010.

Since 2022, Quint has been assisting with the Venom softball team. He joined the Liberal High School softball staff last spring as an assistant, bringing valuable experience to the program.

In response to his new role, Quint shared his enthusiasm for the future of the Liberal High School softball program:

“I’m very excited to teach the game of softball to a great group of girls who are hungry to prove themselves,” he said. “We must fall in love with the grind — the process of showing up every day to get better and pushing your teammates to do the same. I’m excited about the future of the Liberal High School softball program and grateful for this opportunity. We will work hard to continue to grow this great game by partnering with the Liberal Rec Department, Junior Elite Softball, and Venom programs.”

LHS Acitivities Director Kerri Miles was pleased with the addition of Quint.

“I am confident that Matt Quint’s extensive experience and passion for the game will significantly impact the development and success of the softball program,” Miles said. “The school community looks forward to a season of growth, teamwork, and exceptional performance under Matt’s leadership. Matt is a great voice in the community, and I believe the girls will succeed under his new leadership.”
