Zachary Dale Buchman, 40, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2026 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.  

He was born March 1, 1986 to Jeffrey and Danita (Way) Buchman.

He married Mirella Gaitan Oct. 4, 2008. She survives.

He graduated from Liberal High School with the Class of 2004. He later obtained his bachelor's degree from OPSU in 2009.

For 15 years, he dedicated himself to the Transportation Security Administration, eventually serving as a supervisor.

He enjoyed fishing and playing music trivia with his kids.

He loved watching his kids grow, compete, learn, and push themselves. Whether it was basketball, karate, MMA, 4-H, Shooting, or simply spending time together, he wanted his children to be strong

He was a member of the OPSU Alumni Association and First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal.

Survivors also include his mother; children: Scarlett Lee Buchman, Luke Roy Buchman, Mackenzie Faith Buchman, and Sawyer Matthew Buchman;; brother, Cody Lee Buchman; and his Golden Retriever, Emmy.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandfather, LeeRoy Way; and grandmother, Ellen Way.

• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026 at First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal, with Pastor Andrew Puett presiding.

Burial will take place at the Restlawn Cemetery.

There will be no viewing.
