Susan Marie Zielke was born Oct. 18, 1952, to Lawerance ‘Ike’ and Myrtle (Moran) Eisenhauer at Emporia.
Susan went home to be with her Lord Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover.
As a child, Susan lived in Emporia and attended the Catholic grade school in Kismet. She graduated from Southwestern Heights High School in Plains in 1970. She attended Barton Community College in Great Bend and studied nursing.
Susan was united in marriage to Michael Zielke on May 19, 1979, in Liberal. Susan and Mike lived near Hugoton after they were married and had two children, Josh and Sarah. They moved to a farmhouse outside Liberal in 1988, where they raised cattle over the years.
Susan worked as a nurse for more than 40 years at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. Susan served as a nurse and house supervisor and built many lifelong friendships with the staff. Susan began working with the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary in 2010.
Throughout the years, Susan was very involved in 4-H, the church, and activities with the church. Susan worked as a nurse but was also considered a caretaker to many outside of her job. She was always willing to help and lend a hand to anyone who asked.
Mike and Susan enjoyed camping and traveling throughout their life together. Following retirement they spent time traveling to visit many new places, camping in their RV at multiple lakes, cruising the seas, attending concerts, spending time attending their grandchildren’s events, and traveling with their children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Myrtle Eisenhauer; father-in-law, Jim Zielke; and brothers-in-law, Rex and Kim Zielke.
She is survived by her husband Mike; son, Josh Zielke and wife Wendy of Plattsmouth, Neb.; daughter, Sarah Johnson of Andover; brothers: Larry Eisenhauer and wife Cindy of Kansas City, Steve Eisenhauer and wife Jane of Liberal, and Daniel Eisenhauer and wife, Dona, of Brighton, Colo.; brother-in-law, Carey Zielke and wife Myrna of Andover; sister-in-law, LaDena Brill and husband Ron of Wellington; brother-in-law, Mark Zielke of Turpin, Okla.; grandchildren: Alex and Eli Zielke, Sadie and Reece Johnson; along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
• Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hornung Family Funeral Home in Liberal. Rosary service to follow at 7 p.m. at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Liberal.
Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Liberal. Arrangements are under direction of Hornung Family Funeral Home.
