David Alvarez Cardenas, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born June 16, 1944 to Trinidad Alvarez and Maria de la Luz Cardenas.
He married Petra Alvarez in October 1974. She survives.
He was very hard-working and owned and operated the family business, Casa Alvarez, for many years in Liberal.
He was a caring father, grandfather and great grandfather and was much loved by his family and friends.
Survivors include sons, David Alvarez, Liberal, and Trinidad Alvarez, Liberal; daughter, Claudia Alvarez, Liberal; three brothers: Ernesto Alvarez, Raul Alvarez, and Jose Alvarez; five sisters: Ofelia, Socorro, Martha, Maricela and Gillermina Alvarez; four grandchildren, Daniel, Andre, and Alexander Aguirre, Liberal, Kansas, and Jayra Alvarez, Wichita; and great grandchildren, Adaliyah and Zenaida Aguirre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elva Alvarez; and brother, Javier Alvarez.
• Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 at Hornung Family Funeral Home at 1212 W 2nd Street in Liberal.
Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at 1510 N. Calhoun Avenue in Liberal.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Liberal, with Reverend Charles Seiwert presiding.
Burial will take place in Mexico at a later date.
