ULYSSES – Mike Fanning, 66, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. 

He was born Nov. 20, 1958 to Woodrow and Margaret (McKinney) Fanning. 

He married DeDee Carlock March 16, 1995. She survives.

He graduated from Lakin High School. 

He was a country boy at heart and loved mowing the grass at his farm and his mother’s farm. 

He enjoyed roping, loved anything related to John Wayne, and for 20 years he enjoyed searching for gold. 

He was happiest when he was on the tractor or during harvest in the combine and had his grandson, Grayson, riding with him.

Survivors also include his mother, Margaret Fanning of Ulysses; children: Dusty Fanning and wife, Nicole, Brandy Yount and husband, Justin, Woodrow Fanning and wife, Abby, Nicole Webb and husband, Phillip, and Lee Foreman and wife, Donna; siblings: Kathy Swank, Richard Fanning and wife, Glenna, and Pam Hall and husband, Kent; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father.

• Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin. 

Memorials are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
