HUGOTON – Dennis Leroy Campbell, 73, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2025 at his home in Hugoton.

He was born Oct. 14, 1951 to Curtis and Wilma (Newberry) Campbell.

He married Barbara Kallenbach Jan. 25, 1985. She survives.

He attended Hugoton High School and went to work in the oil and gas field before taking over the “Watering Hole,” which over time became “DC’s Private Club” and eventually “Barb’s Den.”

He was known for his sharp wit and great sense of humor. He always had a joke and enjoyed making friends and family laugh.   

Survivors also include children: Veronica Fischer and husband, Rick, Stephanie Osier and husband, Tim, and Chance Campbell and wife, Christen; siblings: Mike Campbell, Ron Campbell, Caroline Reynolds, and Pam Adams; grandchildren: Michael Shedrick, Alyssa Bierman, Crystal Fischer, Jesse Fischer, Patty Fischer, Tyler Campbell, Megan Osier, Cambree Cambell, Codee Campbell, and Chloee Campbell; and great-grandchildren: Athena Shedrick, Ryder Fischer, Max Smith, Devon Spivey, Aria Campbell, Killian Campbell, and Zarina Shull; and many other family and friends.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Justin Craig Campbell; grandsons, Matthew Shedrick and Brett Knisley; four brothers: Jerry Tackett, Curtis Tackett, Jim Campbell, and Bob Campbell; and sister Anita Wappes.

• A celebration of Dennis’ life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Bethel Friends Church at 1040 S. Jefferson in Hugoton, with Pastor Chris Stanfield presiding. 

Memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s or St. Jude’s Children Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 920 E. 11th Street, Hugoton, KS 67951.
