JOHNSON – Catherine Marie (Kirkland) Thomas, 69, died May 28, 2025.

She was born July 19, 1956 to James and Loretta Kirkland.

She married her husband, Danny, Feb. 4, 2002. He survives.

She was raised in Springfield, Colorado before moving to Johnson. She attended school through the 10th grade and later acquired her GED.

At the age of 12, she asked the Lord into her heart and was baptized during a revival at the First Baptist Church in Springfield, Colo.

She enjoyed family vacations to amusement parks, the mountains, lakes or anywhere fun for the kids.

While living in Dalhart, Danny and Cathy both worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where she worked as a corrections officer for several years. Their final move was to Pampa, Texas, where they transferred to another correctional facility. She retired in 2019 after working 15 years as a correctional officer sergeant and unit & property officer.

Survivors also include children: Cherlyn (Brad) Brobst, Springfield, Colo., James (Wendy) Ferretti, Pampa, Texas, Robert Corey, Indianapolis, Seven Thomas, Lubbock, Texas, and Walter and McKenzie Thomas of the home; sister, Pam Moore, Johnson; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Jim, John, Olan and Loyd Kirkland; sister, Brenda Parks; daughter, Angelia Strite; and grandson, Devin Brobst.

• Funeral services took place Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, with Pastor Erik Miravete presiding.

Burial took place at the Stanton County Cemetery.
