William Michael “Mike” Bangs, 74, died Monday, April 8, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Aug. 22, 1949 to William LeRoy and Maxine Evelyn Calhoun Bangs.

He married Janis Marie James March 17, 1979. She survives.

He had worked at National Beef in Liberal for nine years before going to work at the gas companies that served the area for more than 20 years.

He and Janis owned TJ’s Convenience Store in Beaver, Okla., and Granpa’s Quick Stop in Follet, Texas.

For the past 10 years, he worked as a bus driver for the City of Liberal.

Throughout the years he enjoyed coaching little league sports and also enjoyed spending time with the family, camping and fishing. 

Survivors also include sons, Mike Bangs Jr. and wife, Victoria Zamora de Bangs, and Troy Bangs; and grandchildren: Jim Bangs, Stacy Bangs and Kayla Bangs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Wilma Patricia Bangs; and brother, Randall Scott Bangs.

• Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal.
