Vernon Raymond Schweer, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025.

He was born Oct. 11, 1940 to Raymond and Lydia (Mai) Schweer.

He married Joan Joye (Brinkmeyer) Aug. 12, 1962 at the Garden City Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death.

He was a lifelong supporter of the K-State Wildcats for both football and basketball.

He was a guiding light to his students and a supporter of 4-H and agricultural education/FFA programs across Kansas. He found great joy in mentoring young sheep producers and sharing his knowledge.

He enjoyed the fellowship and meals at the Time Out Sports Bar and Grill in Garden City.

Survivors include three children: Sonya Joan Roberts and husband, Rickey, Sara Suzan Gleason, and Matthew Samuel Schweer; sister, Arlene Fuqua (Kent), along with their daughters, Angie Simon (Ted) and Jennifer Jones (Cliff); seven grandchildren: Bryce Roberts (Haley), SaRae Graves (Joe), Landon Roberts (Kassidi), Bryleigh Schweer, Caden Schweer, Grady Gleason, and Grayson Gleason; great-granddaughter, Raleigh Graves; and two sisters-in-law, Juanita Regehr and Charlene Neill (John), and their children.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and son, Vernon Raymond Schweer II.

• Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2025 at Robson Funeral Home in Garden City. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1010 Fleming Street in Garden City, with Pastor Mike Hageman presiding.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
