Loretta “Retta” Higgins, 45, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025 at her home in Lyons.
She was born July 25, 1980 to Paul and Judy Phillips.
She married Chris Higgins Sept. 17, 2004. He survives.
She graduated from Liberal High School and later received her Certified Nurse Aide Certificate (CNA) from Liberal Area Vocational Technical School.
She worked as a CNA at Southwest Medical Center and Good Samaritan Society, both in Liberal.
She helped with activities and events at Little River and Chase Schools, where she often assisted fundraisers by providing baked goods.
She enjoyed baking, gardening, being a mother figure not only to her own children, but to many in the community.
Survivors also include four children: Kaiya, Wren, Kahlis, Violet, and Ariana Kendall-Hixson (who she loved as one of her own), all of Lyons; father and stepmother, Paul and Virginia Phillips, Liberal; and siblings, Tyson Phillips and Jennifer Clark.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy Eckland.
• Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025 at the Church of Christ in Lyons, with Robert Taverner presiding.
The family suggests memorials be given to Chris Higgins, to help with expenses.
