ULYSSES – Marvin Schmidt, 91, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025 at Bethel Home in Montezuma.
He was born March 12, 1934 to Fred and Lephine Sebrant Schmidt.
He received his first four years of education at West Valley View and his second four years at Meridian Grade School. During his teenage years he worked for area farmers as a farmhand.
Upon the confession of his faith and the New Birth, he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite Jan. 29, 1950, by Minister Edd Unruh.
He married Helen Louise Redger July 29, 1956. After residing in Chickasha, Okla. for a short while, they moved to western Kansas where he was employed at Big Bow, Kansas, Gano Farms, Southwest Seed Services, and Young Farms. She preceded him in death. Sept. 23, 1999.
He married Sharon Louise Koehn Sept. 8, 2002. She survives.
Survivors also include children: Marlin and Anne Schmidt, Ulysses, Angela and Rodney Schmidt, Harvard, Idaho, and Oren and Janolla Schmidt, Potlatch, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Schmidt, Powderly, Texas; siblings, Clayton Schmidt, Elsie Mae Unruh, and Roy Schmidt; grandchildren: David, Preston, Mahlon, Cameron, Nolan, Beth, Trey, Shayla and Drew; and great-grandchildren: Oliver, Anne, Edward, Adele, Charlotte, Nellie, Rocky Blaze, Greyson, Jadamae, and Cazz.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Phillip Schmidt; and siblings: Vernon Schmidt, Eldon Schmidt, Ruby Unruh, Oscar Schmidt, Arthur Schmidt, and Norma Jean Koehn.
• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025 at the Grant Mennonite Church in Grant County, with Ministers Denton Koehn, Stuart Jantzen and Karlan Koehn presiding.
Burial will follow at the Grant Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
Memory service will be at 7 p.m. at the Grant Mennonite Church.
