Deborah “Debbie” Gail Smith, 64, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Feb. 28, 1961 to John and Kathryn (Hobson) Harper in Guymon, Okla.
She graduated from Liberal High School in 1979.
She married Galynn Smith Nov. 10, 1984. He survives.
She started her career in retail, then later into trucking moving to National Carriers. By the end of her career, she was the Assistant Director of Livestock there.
She loved the outdoors, spending countless weekends camping and fishing with friends and family.
Survivors include her mother; son, BJ Smith and wife, Amanda, Olathe; grandchildren, Genevive and Margaret Smith; brothers, George Harper and wife, Iva, Liberal, and Robert Harper and wife, Robin, Liberal; sister-in-law, Jeri Trisler and husband, Roy, Dodge City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; brother, John Harper, Jr.; and sister, Mary “Kathy” (Harper) Weldeie.
• Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 at Hornung Family Funeral Home at 1212 W. 2nd Street in Liberal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor John Moses presiding.
Burial will follow at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal.
